WORKSHOPS

  • Rhythm & Flow: Body Movement Session

The characterization of being strong and/or perfect can easily manifest into the suppression of joy, self-care, and overall can cause strain on the nervous system. Being strong all the time isn’t easy and definitely isn’t a fair troupe to carry.

We are human and treating ourselves as such allows us to rest, release, and recover. Our bodies hold so much energy and dancing/body movement is a form of creative expression that allows us to communicate non-verbally. Liberation starts with our expression and empowerment of our own bodies. So here’s a space to do so.

  • Somatic Meditation

Somatic meditation incorporates the mind, body, soul/spirit in its approach. The connection of mind and body are vital to helping us focus on how our bodies inform us of what we do/do not need, when we do/do not feel safe, and many other informative strategies. In this session, let’s put ourselves first and become attuned to what our bodies tell us.

  • Chair Yoga & Stretching for Healing, Strength and Mobility

Chair Yoga & Stretching for Healing, Strength and Mobility

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all fitness plan. Our bodies are constantly impacted by factors including but not limited to racism, sexism, etc. which can lead to experiences of trauma and/or high levels of stress and tension. In this session, we will use stretching and our breath to release any tension while listening to what our unique bodies need in the moment.

  • Mindfulness Retreat

A half-day or full-day mindfulness retreat for participants wanting to try a more intense mindfulness experience. This can include but is not limited to:

    • Dharma Talk

    • Meditation Sessions

    • Yoga/Body Movement

    • Community Building Opportunities

  • Decolonizing Wellness

Exploring mindfulness and grounding practices alongside how cultivating and decolonizing our own wellness helps us to seek and create inclusive, accessible, and supportive services, spaces, and systems.

  • Mindful Advocacy: Exploring Decolonizing Strategies for Racial Equity Work

Model inspired by bystander intervention/de-escalation trainings aimed at skill building and intervening in experiences of violence and harm (including but not limited to harassment, interpersonal violence, and microaggressions).

“Koru” is the New Zealand Māori word for the spiral shape of the unfurling fern frond. The word literally means “looped” or “spiraled”, but the shape symbolizes harmony or balanced growth, representing layered growth around a stable center. The beautiful shape of the koru found in nature reflects perfectly the kind of growth that class participants experience as they begin to develop a mindfulness practice for themselves.
